Ghost hunting ideally uses the help of a paranormal investigator and a historical landmark owner to uncover past occupants and events that today only live in spirit form. Because I live and work in San Diego, I often get approached by people wanting to find out more about the spirits that they feel are present within their home. This is the work I enjoy doing as it brings me joy to see the look on people’s faces when they finally discover the people who once lived where they are still currently occupying the space!
Just like any other job, paranormal investigations need adequate preparation and equipment. Here are the top 5 most important things a paranormal investigator needs. For more Top 5 Lists, visit this site right here.
This is one simple yet important piece of equipment that you can’t afford to miss as a paranormal investigator. Most beginner ghost hunters probably have one already. The good thing is that it doesn’t have to be expensive; a simple 5 MP camera would do. However, if you can afford a more expensive one it is likely a good idea. The better the resolution, the more detailed your images will be. Don’t even think about using a cell phone camera even if it has over 5MP resolution because they have tiny image sensors and the lenses are not great. A point-and-shoot camera is fine, but a digital SLR is better.
2. Pen & Paper
One of the most important things in a Ghost Hunter’s arsenal is pen and paper. Having a small notebook or pad of paper and at least two pens that you can rely on will greatly help you and other paranormal investigators in your ghost hunting experience. You want to make sure you record your personal experiences with all the details. Because weather conditions such as lightning are said to somewhat influence paranormal activity, such simple stationery is important in this event, as you will have to record crucial data, such as moon phases.
Even though this one is common sense, you will need it generally for your safety, as you are more likely to do your investigations in the dark. Sadly, a good number of beginner ghost hunters forget to bring along one of these; you can’t forget that you are going to be prowling around and looking for answers in the dark. A small but powerful 5- or 6-inch LED flashlight that easily slips into the pocket can do the job with the beam of light that it emits. The reason LEDs make a smart choice is that you won’t have to worry about bulb replacement and they are long lasting.
4. Audio Recorder
You will need a digital recorder to record EVP (electronic voice phenomena) and digital recorders are a smart choice because they lack moving parts that can be noisy, affecting sound quality. A good recorder should produce high quality recorded sound. While many ghost hunters prefer to use an analogue audio recorder, a digital one would be better in this case, as quietness is paramount in this activity.
5.A Portable Ice Maker
The good thing is that today there are portable ice makers available on the market and you can get one inexpensively. This one single piece of equipment should never be missed in a ghost hunter’s arsenal. You may carry some ice for various reasons…and any good ghost hunter knows exactly what they are! (I will reveal that in a future article) but since you can’t be sure if it will last the entire period… carry a portable ice maker. I’m not kidding, ice is invaluable. Check out this site and you can find great portable ice makers.
